What is Palmetto Prep?
Palmetto Prep Academy is a Christian post-graduate prep program based out of Columbia, South Carolina. Palmetto Prep has been in existence since 2011 and was originally founded as ‘Gray Military Academy’. Palmetto Prep helps student-athletes earn the test scores and/or college credit they need to receive scholarships to four year institutions.
Palmetto Prep student-athletes attend class everyday with our in house instructor and ACT/SAT prep curriculum.
What is a “Post-Graduate” Year?
A post-graduate, or “PG year” as it is often called, is a full academic year of study generally pursued between graduation from high school and matriculation at a college or university. A PG year is offered at many independent schools throughout the country and usually involves a residential experience. In the case of Palmetto Prep, “the PG year” is only one semester. Our program runs from August until November.
How do students benefit from a post-graduate year?
The environment of a residential, college preparatory school provides the key to the success of a PG year. Our class sizes are small as the only students that attend are football players. Our facilities mirror those of a college campus, and our weekly schedule is designed to develop the skills a student-athlete needs to meet the challenges of an athletically charged college experience.
What happens to my college eligibility when I attend Palmetto Prep?
No eligibility is used while attending Palmetto Prep. Our student-athletes do not enroll in a full time load of college courses. Therefore, their collegiate eligibility clock does not start. What are the chances my student-athlete earns a scholarship to a four year school?
While there is no guarantee of an offer if you enroll in a prep school, we are averaging 32 student-athletes per recruiting class to earn an offer to play at a four year program. We have helped players receive offers from four year programs at all different levels of competition. (FBS, FCS, D2, D3, NAIA) In some situations, an “offer” could be an academic offer from a Division 3 school. Any combination of financial aid, athletic aid, and academic aid can assist your athlete receive an offer from a four year school.
How will my student-athlete get his film seen and get recruited?
Palmetto Prep uses Hudl (www.hudl.com) for the creation of highlight tapes, film breakdown, film study, and recruiting. Players have access to their Hudl accounts so they can create their highlights and have a presentable professional “resume” for college coaches. Our players will have access to the connections and relationships we have built over time as a program. Many colleges will stop through our office on their recruiting trips to high schools in our area. To name a few: South Carolina, University of Cincinnati, University of Pittsburgh, Coastal Carolina, UNC-Charlotte, UMASS, and many more have all stopped by to check in on our recruitable student-athletes.
