PLAYER INTERVIEW: Darius Keck - ATH - 2022
Palmetto Prep Academy's Darius Keck recently sat down with Sydney Cassidy to catch up on the upcoming season.
1. What made you choose Palmetto Prep Academy?
What made me choose Palmetto Prep Academy is how they separated themselves from the other Prep schools I had looked at before them. They showed interest in me and wanted to help me reach my goal of getting an excellent education and a scholarship at the next level.
2. What high school did you graduate from?
I graduated from a private high school in Oakton, Virginia, Flint Hill School.
3. What makes you a top prospect at your position in the 2022 recruiting class?
What makes me a top prospect in my position in the 2022 recruiting class is that I separate myself by being very versatile. I can play all over the field and compete to the best of my ability. I am also very coachable and can pick up concepts quickly. Like many athletes, I love competing, and even if I don't win a rep, I will keep correcting until I succeed.
4. What is one thing that colleges and universities should know about you?
One thing colleges and universities should know about me is that I can adapt to any situation presented to me. I like to be exposed out of my comfort zone; it teaches me to see things differently. It will allow me to have different tools to succeed in life, and if I can share that experience with others, I will.
5. What are you thinking about majoring in when you get to college?
I want to major in business when I get to college. It will help me learn research helpful information using qualitative skills.
6. What is the best advice you have ever received?
The best advice I have ever received, even though that is a callous decision because fortunately for me, I have many role models to look up to that give great advice. Still, it would have to be "Some people want it to happen, some wish it could happen, others make it happen." That speaks to me because many kids don't understand that the real world doesn't give out handouts; if I want something to happen, I have to do something myself for it to work.
7. Overcoming adversity is what defines character; what was the hardest moment in your life to overcome?
The most challenging moment in my life was when I had to move from my mom at a young age. And what was even worse was finding out eventually that she didn't have the best intention for me. But as I got older, I realized that I have great supporting parents, my dad, and my stepmother, Mike and Ana. I have no idea what I would do without them.
8. Do you have any offers currently?
No, I do not have any offers currently. I had opportunities to walk on at Wagner or Fordham, but this was the best decision by far for my situation. That is why I took this opportunity to come to Palmetto because I know if I do what I am supposed to, they will help me reach my goals of getting an excellent education and playing at a great university/college.
9. If you could sell yourself in one sentence, what would you say?
If I could DEFINE myself in one sentence, I would say, "I am no perfect product, but more an asset that will use my skills to contest your needs."
